CANAL+ IS DELIGHTED TO HAVE SUPPORTED 7 OF THE 9 FILMS THAT WON AN AWARD IN THE OFFICIAL COMPETITION AT THE 79TH CANNES FILM FESTIVAL BEFORE THEIR CINEMA RELEASE, INCLUDING THE PALME D'OR.
IT’S AN OUTSTANDING LIST OF AWARDS THAT UNDERLINES ITS UNIQUE PLACE IN THE WORLD OF FILM CREATION.

The 79th Cannes Film Festival has just ended, and the jury, chaired by Park Chan-wook, awarded the Palme d'Or to the film FJORD, directed by Cristian Mungiu. The Grand Prix was awarded to the film MINOTAUR by Andreï Zvyagintsev. The Screenplay Award went to A MAN OF HIS TIME by Emmanuel Marre. The Director’s Award went to FATHERLAND by Pawel Pawlikowski (tied with LA BOLA NEGRA by Los Javis). The Best Actor Award went to Emmanuel Macchia and Valentin Campagne for their roles in COWARD by Lukas Dhont. The Best Actress Award went to Virginie Efira and Tao Okomato for their roles in ALL OF A SUDDEN by Ryūsuke Hamaguchi. Finally, the Palme d'Or for short film was awarded to FOR THE OPPONENTS by Federico Luis . These seven films were acquired or pre-acquired by CANAL+ and/or CINÉ+ OCS, with support from the scriptwriting stage.

As a reminder, across all sections - Out of Competition, Critics' Week, Filmmakers' Fortnight, Cannes Écrans Junior, etc. a total of 50 films were supported by the CANAL+ Group, making it the leading partner of films presented at the 79th Cannes Film Festival.

Among them, 14 films pre-acquired or acquired by CANAL+ and/or CINÉ+ OCS received awards, totalling 25 prizes, including: FJORD, MINOTAUR, A MAN OF HIS TIME, FATHERLAND, COWARD, ALL OF A SUDDEN, SHANA, TOO MANY BEASTS, LA GRADIVA, FLESH AND FUEL …

During the festival, five STUDIOCANAL films were also presented in the Official Selection: ANOTHER DAY by Jeanne Herry (Competition), FULL PHIL by Quentin Dupieux (Midnight Screenings), CRESCENDO by Agnès Jaoui (Out of Competition), WORDS OF LOVE by Rudi Rosenberg (Un Certain Regard) and VISITATION by Volker Schlöndorff (Cannes Premiere). The 2026 Film Market proved the most important in its history for STUDIOCANAL, with a line-up of 20 films, including 7 premieres. These included MIDNIGHT LIBRARY, an adaptation of Matt Haig's best-selling novel starring Florence Pugh; THE MANNEQUIN, a new film from STUDIOCANAL's genre label SIXTH DIMENSION; and JOSEPHINE BAKER, a biopic about this amazing historical figure portrayed on screen by FKA Twigs.
