CANAL+ TAKES A STAND AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

04 June 2025

CANAL+ becomes the first company to receive the SAFE PLACE label created by the association ‘125 et après’, aimed at supporting employees who are victims of domestic violence. This new commitment of the group is part of a broader three-part initiative: (i) internal measures to support its employees ; (ii) committed content to raise awareness ; (iii) useful resources for subscribers who are victims or witnesses.

As part of these efforts, in addition to a wide range of internal measures and broadcasting impactful documentaries such as (SUR)VIVANTS, CANAL+ will now include an informational banner about domestic violence in the opening and closing credits of selected programs that address this issue.

THE SAFE PLACE LABEL: AN ILLUSTRATION OF CANAL+’S COMMITMENT TO A PRESSING SOCIAL ISSUE

One in ten employees report knowing someone within their company who has experienced domestic violence. 42% of European victims believe they could confide in a colleague [1], and the workplace is sometimes the only place where victims feel safe.

By obtaining the SAFE PLACE label, created by ‘125 et après’, an association supporting women victims of violence, CANAL+ reinforces its dedication to creating a safe environment within the workplace.

This year, the group is rolling out 14 internal measures across three key areas:

  1. Inform and raise awareness among all employees (e.g. training on identifying weak signals of abuse),

  2. Protect and guide (e.g. a network of internal Ambassadors to listen to people who need help),

  3. Support victims (e.g. qualified points of contact to support victims in their actions, in close collaboration with partner associations ‘125 et après’ and ‘Droits d’urgence’).

COMMITTED CONTENT TO ADDRESS A MAJOR SOCIETAL ISSUE

As a global media and entertainment group, CANAL+ is fully aware of its particular responsibility and supports the production, direction, and broadcasting of impactful documentaries that address important societal issues. The scourge of domestic violence is no exception.

Following the broadcast of VIVANTE(S) by Claire Lajeunie, which portrays Sarah Barukh’s fight against femicide, and VERBATIM by Sabrina Hoarau on intra-family violence, CANAL+ will premiere (SUR)VIVANTS tonight at 9.00 pm. This new documentary by Claire Lajeunie - also available in free-to-air on on the CANAL+ App - gives a voice, for the first time, to children of femicide victims.

CANAL+ SUPPORTS SUBSCRIBERS WHO ARE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND IN DANGER

From 4 June 2025, CANAL+ will broadcast an information banner during the opening and closing credits of content addressing the subject of domestic violence, such as VIVANTE(S), (SUR)VIVANTS and OF MONEY AND BLOOD. The list will evolve as new content arrives.

With this banner, CANAL+ aims to support its subscribers - women and men - who may be experiencing domestic violence, by providing access to resources for seeking help ; tools to recognize the dynamics of abuse ; information on their legal rights guidance on how to safely begin the process of escaping the cycle of violence ; a methodology to ensure secure access to support services.

Making a difference has been part of CANAL+'s culture since its inception. By deploying these various initiatives, CANAL+ as a whole is committed, both on-screen and off, to combating domestic violence.
